Fall is almost here and the new school year is beginning. This has always been an exciting time for me…a return to structure and business, a return to long days and longer nights of toiling. I myself will not be going to school as a “student” per se but I will be teaching young people.

A lot of the sentiments in the video above are shared by many people…and frankly by a lot of older people as our society continually slows the “growing up process” in order for people to find themselves. I suppose that we’ve reached one of the higher echelons of maslow’s pyramid where the focus is on self-edification and more metaphysical things rather than survival.

Regardless, the weather brings back lots of great memories…if you aren’t following me on twitter yet you should…as well as @Billy he’s quite a character.

The Beatles Coldplay Paradox

What is this you might ask? Simple.

The Beatles wrote the song “A Day in the Life” and mid-way through the song a dream sequence occurs where a melody is sung on Oh.

Coldplay wrote the song “Lost” and at the end of the song the same melody with the slightest rhythmic variation is used. Sung on Oh as well.

Perhaps Martin and Lennon/McCartney had the same dream.

Check the videos for evidence.

The Beatles Coldplay Paradox Pt. Criminal menace to society, lost gigs, lost “friends” and absolutely broke. In the positive I play in a successful band and I teach music…but all the negatives have been a sign to chill out and go back to my basics and practice, practice practice.

I don’t think I’ve ever lost a gig up to this point, while the turmoil in my life didn’t directly cause it, it just was a reminder that living the cushy life means you become soft. Thom Yorke once said… “Remain orderly in life so that you may be free and chaotic in your work. You basically lose it when you destroy your brain or destroy yourself emotionally”. Back to basics, back to learning what others know, back to the beginning, back to when I wasn’t trying to drown everything (including myself).

Off to practice…more.

It’s ok to feel good on a beautiful sunday.

The weather has been incredible the past few days, where living outside would actually be enjoyable. I kind of do, I spend about 40 percent of my life driving to different destinations in the metropolitan area. Certainly increases my chances to have my driving practice honed and scrutinized by the patrols.

Echosuite continues to do well, we’ve got our show at Webster Hall coming up on the 18th and then another Bowery Ballroom date on the 28th and a debut at Poission Rouge on the 13th of August, (exciting right!?). I really enjoy playing with the band and we’re finally getting to really know each other musically and as “human beings” as Rob put it tonight.

Have a gig with “Livingston Leo” at the National Underground next Monday, hopefully it will turn into a residency there. The Kontrabassville Bass Quartet also gave a performance to the NJYS Summer Camp today which was very enjoyable. I miss playing classical music on a regular weekly basis (with repertoire that actually really challenged me to get better).

As for myself: endless summer.remmus sseldne
